For all my dvd work i use Nero 6 enterprise edition, i take it you do have a dvd recorder built in?
and if you want to copy any dvd then use DVD SHRINK it is a free prog.. and when i say "any" thats what it does,

if it is for data, would you not be better off with cd, then you just keep adding bits when you need to... or have i lost the plot.

I use nero 6 and just erase the disc when you want to write over it and for adding bits .......when the disc is put in the drive, it shows what is on it and then add some ;D

Are you sure that you've got a re-writable DVD, and not just an normal DVD?
And when you last used it, did it come up with the option to "close" the disc? If so, then the DVD cannot be written to anymore.
